If you're trying to move tracked time to a budget item and receive an error, the most common reason is the Time tracking restriction configured for the project.
How Time Tracking Restriction works
In Project Settings → Time tracking settings, you can define the date range during which time can be tracked to a specific budget item.
This restriction is not limited to creating new time entries. Every time you create, edit, or move a tracked time entry, Allfred checks the date it applies to against the budget item's allowed date range. If that date falls outside the allowed range, the action is blocked - whether it's a new tracking, an edit, or a move.
When trying to move a tracked time entry to a budget item with a restricted date range, two conditions both need to be met:
The date the time was originally tracked for must fall within the budget item's allowed date range.
The date on which you're performing the move must also fall within that same allowed date range.
If either condition is not met, Allfred will not allow the move.
Example
Imagine you have a budget item for February with a date range limited to February 1–28. In March, you discover that some tracked hours should belong to this February budget item and try to move them. Allfred will not allow this move - and for two reasons at once:
The time entry falls in March, which is outside the February 1–28 range.
You are also trying to perform the move in March, which is itself outside the allowed range.
Both the tracked date and the date of the action need to fall within the budget item's allowed range for the move to succeed.
Temporary solution
If you need to move the tracked time, follow these steps:
Go to Project Settings → Time tracking settings.
Locate the affected budget item.
Temporarily extend its date range so that it includes both the original tracked date and today's date.
Move or reassign the tracked time.
Change the date range back to its original values.
Time tracking settings can be modified by any user with permission to edit the project (this is not limited to a specific role, such as Admin or CFO - it follows the same project edit permissions as other project settings).
Still unable to move tracked time?
Verify that:
The target budget item is active.
The budget item's date range includes both the original tracked date and today's date.
You have permission to edit tracked time entries.
The project's Time tracking restriction settings do not prevent the change.
