How to delete or unassign a budget from a project

Unassign a budget from a project or delete it completely. Only unassigned budgets can be deleted, and only by CFOs and admins.

Written by Alexandra Gallisová

You can remove a budget from a project in two ways: unassign it, so it stays saved but no longer defines the project, or delete it completely. A budget must be unassigned before it can be deleted.

How to unassign a budget

In the project, go to the Budgets tab and click the unassign icon next to the assigned budget.

The budget stays in the list of budgets, so you can assign it again or delete it later.

How to delete a budget

Click the three dots (⋮) next to the budget and choose Delete.

⚠️ Only unassigned budgets can be deleted. If the budget is assigned to a project, unassign it first. Only users with the CFO or Admin role can delete budgets.

How does it affect the project overview?

If you unassign or delete a budget whose budget items have tracked hours or invoices, these budget items stay in the project overview labeled DELETED. To remove the label, move the tasks with tracked hours to another budget item or project, and edit the invoice if there is one.

FAQ

Why can’t I delete a budget?
Either the budget is still assigned to a project (unassign it first), or you don’t have the CFO or Admin role.

Why do I see items labelled DELETED in my project?
The budget they belonged to was unassigned or deleted, but the items still have tracked hours or invoices. Move the tasks or edit the invoice to remove the label.
